Now Spencer's hard work is being recognized by Microsoft itself, as the current Head of Xbox has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Gaming, and will report directly to CEO Satya Nadella. In this role, Spencer is accountable for leading Microsoft's gaming business across all devices and services. The team is now 16 strong. According to GameSpot sister site ZDNet, Spencer-who is now executive vice president of gaming for Microsoft-is joining Microsoft's Senior Leadership Team. The appointment shows that games remain an important part of Microsoft's overall agenda, and that Spencer will have voice in the big decisions at the company.

Spencer was named head of Xbox in March 2014, just after Nadella became CEO, replacing previous leader Marc Whitten. In short, the Xbox brand is in a much better place now, then it was pre-Spencer. That reorganization was meant to streamline the company's operations to focus more on selling specific "customer solutions", with video games identified as a core area of interest. He's also led the expansion of cross-platform gaming with Xbox Live, which now counts more than 50 million monthly active users. Microsoft has an event on October 3 in San Francisco, and the headsets are expected to be available on October 17.
