The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Syrian refugee Yahyah Farroukh.

Scotland Yard said magistrates had granted warrants allowing the 18-year-old to be held until Saturday, and Farroukh until Thursday.

"There is still much more to do but this greater clarity and this progress has led JTACt, he independent body that assesses threat, to come to the judgement that an attack is no longer imminent", said Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, the UKs National Lead for Counter-Terrorism Policing.

The UK's threat level has been lowered from critical to severe after two people were arrested in connection with the terror attack in London on Friday morning. Both suspects are foster children of an elderly couple, Ronald and Penelope Jones.

A local politician said he understood an 18-year-old who had lived with the couple to be an Iraqi orphan who had moved to Britain aged 15 after his parents died.

The Joneses have been respected foster parents for nearly 40 years and looked after up to 300 children, including eight refugees. A video, obtained by The Sun newspaper, and republished below by MailOnline, purports to show Farroukh being arrested. It said he began attending courses when he was 17 to learn English.

He was arrested outside the chicken shop where he worked in Hounslow on Saturday night.

"It feels very far away from the center", Kate Llewellen-Jones, who lives next to the Underground station, told the Post.

"Then we went to the town centre, I wanted to smoke a cigarette and have some coffee, my opinion was that he was a homeless guy and that's why they were interrogating him".

Fresh footage has emerged that appears to show the Parsons Green bomb suspect carrying a Lidl carrier bag on the morning of the attack.

A police spokeswoman said: "Following the terror incident in London today, Hertfordshire Constabulary would like to reassure the public that there is no intelligence to suggest a specific threat to the county at this time".

Some commuters witnessed that most injuries were burns inflicted by the wall of fire erupting from the IED.

It is believed the Syrian arrived in the United Kingdom four years ago, aged around 17, and was also being cared for by the elderly foster couple.

"It is inevitable that so-called Islamic State, or Daesh, will reach in and try and claim responsibility". The last time Britain was put on "critical" alert was after a suicide bomber killed 22 people at the Ariana Grande concert.

Earlier this year, assailants with vans and knives attacked passers by on Westminster Bridge and London Bridge in two separate strikes, and a van was driven into worshippers outside a mosque in Finsbury Park.
