Danny Welbeck to miss 4 weeks

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck injured his groin in the goalless draw with Chelsea, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The injury, which could be longer if it reveals Welbeck suffered a tear, will mean he will miss at least 6 Arsenal games, as well as 2 England games, a blow for Welbeck, who had been reintroduced into the England squad during the last worldwide break.

According to the Daily Mail, there is no definitive timeline as yet, but ahead of further assessment on Tuesday there are fears that the 26-year-old could miss the next four weeks.

Welbeck's Arsenal career has been blighted by various injuries since he made the surprise £16m from boyhood club Manchester United in the summer of 2014.

Welbeck is certain to miss tomorrow night's League Cup clash with Doncaster while a month absence would also see him sit out league games with West Brom, Brighton and Watford as well as Europa League games with BATE Borisov and Red Star Belgrade.

In addition to missing Arsenal games, the former Manchester United player will nearly certainly be ruled out of England's World Cup qualifiers with Slovenia and Lithuania early next month.

In his first game back, he scored the victor against eventual Premier League champions Leicester City just minutes after coming on.

Welbeck missed eight months of 2016 with a knee cartilage problem but the Gunners do have cover in Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.
