Battleground Asia: Vijender Singh beats China's Zulpikar, maintains unbeaten record

Undefeated Indian boxer Vijender Singh (8-0) takes on China's top-ranked super-middleweight Zulipikar Maimaitiali (8-0-1) in Mumbai on Saturday night with the WBO Asia-Pacific and Oriental super middleweight titles on the line, and the Indian is using the political dispute to drum-up interest in "Battleground Asia", which could pave the way for a world title shot down the line.

"Winning this fight will definitely make me hero when I return and the only advantage that Vijender has is being at home", he adds.

Vijender Singh defeated Chinese opponent Zulpika Maimaitiali in a closely fought bout which ended with a final score of 96-94, 95-94, 95-94.

"I don't think so. many more to come".

"[Maimaitiali] has had just eight fights so far". He's young (23) and a strong kid, that is true.

Speaking to reporters about the much talked about encounter; Vijender said he is confident and hopeful that it will be a good fight.
